Memory Supplements: How to Judge the Evidence
A practical guide to evaluating supplements marketed for memory, including evidence quality, labels, safety and common red flags.
What counts as a memory supplement?
The category includes single nutrients, botanicals and multi-ingredient formulas promoted for memory or broader cognitive support. Marketing language varies widely, so comparison should begin with the exact label and claim.
Evidence questions
Was the actual ingredient studied in humans? Was the extract and dose comparable? Were participants similar to the intended user? Was the outcome meaningful? Was the finished formula itself tested?
Important limitation
NCCIH notes that direct evidence that dietary supplements can prevent Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia is lacking. That makes disease-prevention promises an especially important red flag.
