Evidence-conscious guide

How to Evaluate a Cognitive Supplement

Five steps for evaluating cognitive supplement claims, evidence, labels, safety and commercial terms.

1. Define the exact claim

“Supports cognitive wellness” is not the same claim as preventing or treating a disease. Write down what the seller actually promises.

2. Read the Supplement Facts panel

Look for ingredient amounts, serving size and proprietary blends that may obscure individual doses.

3. Match evidence to the product

Check whether research used the same ingredient form, dose, duration and relevant population. Do not treat mechanistic evidence as a clinical outcome.

4. Check safety and interactions

Review authoritative safety information and ask a health professional when medicines, conditions, pregnancy or surgery are relevant.

5. Verify commercial terms

Check the current total price, shipping, subscription status, cancellation and refund terms directly before purchase.
